At this time, PCEC does not anticipate any temporary forced outages for its members, but the cooperative is encouraging members to maintain lowered usage tonight and into tomorrow.

There remain no plans in place to implement temporary forced outages for PCEC members. Demand levels remain very high and systems are strained, so we continue to ask consumer-members to keep their usage to a minimum at this time.

We appreciate the efforts of PCEC members to decrease their usage over the past two days – they’ve helped prevent rolling blackouts from being implemented in our service territory. We urge everyone to continue conserving energy as we head into another peak this evening. These are not easy times, but we’ll get through it together as a cooperative family.

PCEC has been able to avoid implementing rolling blackouts up to this point. We continue to urge members to keep their demand on the grid to a minimum.

February 15th, 3:00 PM

Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative is urging its consumer-members to reduce their impact on the co-op’s grid due to peak demand caused by extreme winter temperatures. 

High power consumption levels across the grid have the potential to cause intermittent service disruptions as a result of the system being overloaded. There are a number of steps PCEC members can take immediately in order to reduce their household’s demand on the grid.

  • Limit the use of other appliances such as laundry or running a dishwasher.
  • Use smaller kitchen appliances like toaster ovens, microwaves, slow-cookers, etc. to make meals rather than relying on your range or oven.
  • Turn down your thermostat a few degrees and use a blanket or warm clothing to help conserve and stay warm.
  • Turn off and unplug space heaters you don’t need to use. Be mindful of the amount of time you utilize a space heater and reduce it, if possible.
  • Keep fireplace dampers closed when not in use.
  • Unplug/turn off unused electronics, chargers, and lights. 

PCEC is taking an all hands on deck approach to getting any outages resolved as quickly as possible and is working with power generation and transmission partners to reduce the impact of the extreme weather event on consumer-members.
